Every site owner wants to improve site performance. Let’s talk about that: broad performance concepts, specific tips, and our own software-based solutions.
What is the best platform for the fastest PHP engines?
The competition between PHP 7 and HHVM is starting to heat up. HHVM was previously the front runner, originally converting PHP code to C++ but eventually changing their strategy by instead converting to x86-64 machine code to dramatically increase a PHP site’s performance. PHP however is trying very hard to come out on top with the coming release of PHP 7. Who will win this competition, PHP 7 or HHVM?

PHP 7 Alpha 1 was released yesterday, marking the beginning of the PHP 7 major series, though the GA version is scheduled to be released by the end of 2015. PHP 7 has improved performance, up to twice as fast as PHP 5.6, and consistent 64-bit support. “2015 is shaping up to be an amazing year for PHP. You’ll not only benefit from a whole slew of new features but also from performance going through the roof!” promises the PHP team. Quite exciting, isn’t it?

Long-running PHP processes, as a result of a poorly written script or a DoS attack, can kill your server’s resources. This is why LiteSpeed Web Server has a number of features to automatically abort these processes.
Sometimes, though, users have a process they need to run for a long time. (BackupBuddy is a prime example of this.) For these users, we’ve recently revamped our guide to disabling PHP timeouts. This guide takes you through all the features that could cause a process to end before it’s finished, and how to tweak them. If you’re trying to configure LiteSpeed Web Server to work with BackupBuddy, ImportBuddy, or any other WordPress module that relies on a WP built-in cron job, this is just the guide for you.
We’re always adding more documentation. If you have an issue or feature that you’d like to see documented, let us know on our forum.
